Gillian Burgess
A graduate from Norman Manley Law School, Gillian has appeared in a number of high profile cases.
She has practiced extensively in the area of Criminal Law appearing in matters such as the West Kingston Commission of Inquiry, as well as several cases in the Court of Appeal. She also practices in the areas of civil litigation, conveyancing, administration of estates, family law and personal injury matters. In 2010 she represented the Nurses Association of Jamaica in its dispute with the government before the Industrial Disputes Tribunal. In 2013 she represented the Jamaica Aviation Inspectors Association in the application which was made for Judicial Review of the decision of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal. Her clients include statutory bodies, small and medium sized enterprises and individuals of diverse backgrounds and net worth.
Ms. Burgess is a member of the Civil Procedure and Practice Committee and the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Jamaican Bar Association. She is also the secretary of the General Legal Council’s Continuing Legal and Professional Development Committee. She has prepared and presented papers on diverse subjects.
